This fabric applique was made to honor Winter and the true story of an injured dolphin shown in the Dolphin Tale movie. So many kids love Winter and relate to her! The design was created as an original Alcohol Ink collage painting by Kristen Jasper Fine Art. Kristen was originally designing a dolphin, and her son asked her to put the special tail on her and make it Winter! You can choose the size fabric applique from the drop down menu above. I added Wonder Under fusing on the back, which you peel off before ironing onto your project. These are great to iron onto a girls or boys shirt, or make a quilt square, placemat, pillow, etc. If your item is to be washed, I'd recommend stitching around the edges after ironing, or adding a thin line of paint around the outline, etc.

Swimming free, a young dolphin was caught in a crab trap, rescued and transported to Clearwater Marine Hospital, where she was named Winter. Damage from the crab trap rope causes her tail to degrade and, without a tail, Winter’s prognosis is dire. It took the expertise of a dedicated marine biologist, the ingenuity of a brilliant prosthetics doctor and the unwavering devotion of a young boy to bring about a groundbreaking miracle. The real Winter serves today as a symbol of courage, perseverance and hope to millions of people – both able and disabled – who have been touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation.

We now will miss Winter, and hope this can bring a happy remembrance of her!
