This fabric square was made to honor Winter and the true story of an injured dolphin shown in the Dolphin Tale movie. So many kids love Winter and relate to her! The design was created as an original Alcohol Ink collage painting by Kristen Jasper Fine Art. Kristen was originally designing a dolphin, and her son asked her to put the special tail on her and make it Winter! I love the watercolor look to it, as well as the happy sun shining on her. The colors are blended together the way only Alcohol Inks can do. I have printed this design as organic cotton fabric quilt squares in varying sizes. A project idea for girls is to sew the square as is onto a shirt, or make a quilt, pillow, zipper pouch, etc. For boys, you can add ultra hold "no sew" fusing to the square and cut Winter out as a fabric applique to iron onto a shirt (see picture above). You can do many different things with it, following your and your kids imaginations! You can choose the size you would like from the drop down menu above.
Swimming free, a young dolphin was caught in a crab trap, rescued and transported to Clearwater Marine Hospital, where she was named Winter. Damage from the crab trap rope causes her tail to degrade and, without a tail, Winter’s prognosis is dire. It took the expertise of a dedicated marine biologist, the ingenuity of a brilliant prosthetics doctor and the unwavering devotion of a young boy to bring about a groundbreaking miracle. The real Winter serves today as a symbol of courage, perseverance and hope to millions of people – both able and disabled – who have been touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation.
This is one of the designs in the Alcohol Ink Collection, and they all coordinate together beautifully for that beach or sea life lover in your life.
